Pope Leo XIII said, "There is nothing more excellent than that numerous voices pray without interruption from all parts of the world, simultaneously lifting up supplications to the Blessed Virgin Mary as they meditate on the mysteries of the Holy Rosary." Say the Rosary every day, to obtain peace for the world. – Our Lady of Fatima

Thank you Scott and Bill for your encouraging comments. In the course of my life, I have known some dear souls who resisted or put off the practice of praying the Holy Rosary...only much to their pleasant surprise and recognition, once they began...at first only committing to a decade...they have expressed your same sentiments. And to this day, faithfully pray their rosary. How can one help but not be drawn to the object of such devotion? Greater union with Our Lord Jesus Christ through the instrument of the Rosary. Ad Jesu per Mariam! God bless you both, - Mary

The Creed or the Symbol of the Apostles, which is said on the crucifix of the rosary, is a holy summary of all the Christian truths. It is a prayer that has great merit, because faith is the root, foundation and beginning of all Christian virtues, of all eternal virtues, and of all prayers that are pleasing to God. "Anyone who comes to God must believe," and the greater his faith the more merit his prayer will have, the more powerful it will be, and the more it will glorify God. The holy Rosary contains many mysteries of Jesus and Mary, and since faith is the only key which opens up these mysteries for us, we must begin the Rosary by saying the Creed very devoutly, and the stronger our faith the more merit our Rosary will have. This faith must be lively and informed by charity; in other words, to recite the Rosary properly it is necessary to be in God's grace, or at least seeking it. This faith must be strong and constant, that is, one must not be looking for sensible devotion and spiritual consolation in the recitation of the Rosary; nor should one give it up because the mind is flooded with countless involuntary distractions, or because one experiences a strange distaste in the soul or an almost continual and oppressive fatigue of the body. Neither feelings, nor consolation, nor sighs, nor transports, nor the continual attention of the imagination are needed; faith and good intentions are quite enough. Sola fides sufficit. - St Louis DeMontfort

I started praying the rosary daily as a novena before a pilgrimage to Lourdes in 2008. Two years has now passed and our Blessed Mothers has answered some of prayers in the way I have asked and other in a different way, however which ever way our prayer is answered by Our Lady as our mother, the reason at the time may not be clear, but with time we understand why she answered it the way only a mother knows best. One can't go wrong quoting St Louis DeMontfort. I have had his " Secret of the Rosary" and "True Devotion" as lifelong companions and will still find astonishing truths and inspiring sentiments to urge me on to never give up my rosary. Thank you both Rick and Scott for your comments. May God bless you!

"If you say the Rosary faithfully until death, I do assure you that, in spite of the gravity of your sins 'you shall receive a never-fading crown of glory.' Even if you are on the brink of damnation, even if you have one foot in hell, even if you have sold your soul to the devil as sorcerers do who practise black magic, and even if you are a heretic as obstinate as a devil, sooner or later you will be converted and will amend your life and will save your soul, if-- and mark well what I say-- if you say the Holy Rosary devoutly every day until death for the purpose of knowing the truth and obtaining contrition and pardon for your sins." - St. Louis de Montfort

No amount of study or intellectualizing can replace the actual practice of rosary meditation. Just as a writer must eventually stop planning and start writing, the person who plans to pray must eventually start to pray. You cannot think your way into rosary devotion. At some point, you must pick up the beads and take action. But the act of praying is a blessed act. As St. Paul tells us, "The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words." (Romans 8:26) In rosary devotion, we ask Mary to intercede for us. Through the same Holy Spirit that overshadowed her, she joins in our prayers with unique fervor. -Excerpt from The Seeker's Guide to The Rosary by Liz Kelly

Our Attention during Prayer In order to pray well, it is not enough to give expression to our petitions by means of that most excellent of all prayers, the Rosary, but we must also pray with great attention, for God listens more to the voice of the heart than that of the mouth. To be guilty of wilful distractions during prayer would show a great lack of respect and reverence; it would make our Rosaries unfruitful and make us guilty of sin. How can we expect God to listen to us if we ourselves do not pay attention to what we are saying? Of course, you cannot say your Rosary without having a few involuntary distractions; it is even difficult to say a Hail Mary without your imagination troubling you a little, for it is never still; but you can say it without voluntary distractions, and you must take all sorts of precautions to lessen involuntary distractions and to control your imagination. To do this, put yourself in the presence of God and imagine that God and his Blessed Mother are watching you, and that your guardian angel is at your right hand, taking your Hail Marys, if they are well said, and using them like roses to make crowns for Jesus and Mary. But remember that at your left hand is the devil, ready to pounce on every Hail Mary that comes his way and to write it down in his book of death, if they are not said with attention, devotion, and reverence. Above all, do not fail to offer up each decade in honour of one of the mysteries, and try to form a picture in your mind of Jesus and Mary in connection with that mystery. - Saint Louis Marie De Montfort
