Infant Jesus

Dearest Child Jesus, how tenderly You love us!
Your greatest joy is to dwell among us
and to bestow Your blessing upon us.
Though I am not worthy that You should help me,
I feel drawn to You by love because
You are kind and merciful.

So many who turned to You with confidence
have received graces and their petitions granted.
Behold me as I come before You
to lay open my heart to You
with its prayers and hopes.
I present to You especially this request,
which I enclose in Your loving Heart:
(Mention your request).

Rule over me, dear Infant Jesus,
and do with me and mine
according to Your Holy Will,
for I know that in Your Divine Wisdom and Love
You will arrange everything for the best.
Do not withdraw Your hand from me,
but protect and bless me forever.

I pray You, all-powerful and gracious Infant Jesus,
for the sake of Your Sacred Infancy,
in the Name of Your Blessed Mother Mary
who cared for You with such tenderness,
and by the greatest reverence
with which Saint Joseph carried You in his arms,
help me in my needs.
Make me truly happy with You, dearest Infant,
in time and in eternity,
and I shall thank You forever with all my heart.

The Childhood of Jesus has been an important theme
for Christians from the very beginning.
Christians have always longed to express
their profound reverence for the
incarnation of our God and Lord Jesus Christ.
This pious desire was inspired not only by the Gospels
but also by apocryphal texts
such as the pseudo-gospels of James and Thomas.

The Divine Child was already venerated by church fathers
such as St. Athanasius or St. Jerome.
Others who held the childhood of Jesus in great honour
included St. Bernard of Clairvaux, St. Francis of Assisi,
and St. Anthony of Padua. During the Baroque period
there was St. Teresa of Avila, in particular,
who took the Infant Jesus with her
when she founded new monasteries.

The most revered devotion to Our Lord's infancy
is to The Infant Jesus of Prague
 as out title image depicts.

Created originally as a royal wedding gift,
the original statue is nineteen inches tall,
made of wood and wax.

It represents the Infant Jesus dressed in royal robes,
wearing a crown.

The right hand of the Infant Jesus is raised in blessing,
while his left hand holds a sphere surmounted by a cross
– the whole of our universe rests in his hands.
His royal insignia express the faith
that all Christians have in common:
the faith in the divinity of Jesus.
In Him,  Almighty God himself, ruler over all things,
became a human being.

Later, it had been discarded in war
and His hands destroyed.

Found by a Carmelite, the statue was returned
to a place of honor in the Carmelite Chapel in Prague.

In 1637, as Fr. Cyril prayed before Him, he was
filled with wonder, contemplating the loving God
Who became a child for His people.

Suddenly the statue spoke to the stunned Carmelite:

Have mercy on me and I will have mercy on you.
Give Me hands and I will give you peace.
The more you honor Me, the more I will bless you.

Many miracles have occurred through intercession
to the Divine Infant. For almost four centuries
this promise has inspired devotion and love
of the Infant Jesus.
The original statue has been restored and is preserved
in the Church of Our Lady of Victory in Prague.

The Infant Jesus of Prague

O Jesus, Who said " ask and you shall receive, seek
and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you,"
through the intercession of Mary,
your Most Holy Mother,
I knock, I seek, I ask that my prayer be granted.

(Make your request)

O Divine Jesus, Who said

"Unless you become like little children,

you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven,"

grant me the simplicity and wonder,
the tenderness and gentleness of a child.

Fill me with innocence, hope and love.

(Make your request)

O Divine Infant, help me know how close You are to me
and how powerful is Your embrace.
Help me to trust that You do hold
the whole world in Your hand.

I place my every need and care in Your hands.

(Make your request)

Venerable Margaret of the Most Holy Sacrament

Jesus himself taught the Venerable Margaret
of the Most Holy Sacrament,
a French Discalced Carmelite
(died 26 May 1648 in the Carmel in Beaune)
to pray this short rosary.
He asked her to make it known among the faithful
and promised special graces,
above all purity of heart and innocence,
to all who carried the chaplet on their person
and recited it in honor of the mysteries
of his holy childhood.

Chaplet (orRosary) to the Child Jesus
This chaplet consists of three “Our Fathers” in honor of the Holy Family, and twelve “Hail Marys” in memory of the twelve childhood years of Jesus Christ. To this chaplet of fifteen beads is attached a medal of the Infant Jesus.

The chaplet can be recited in the following way:

Begin on the medal with the words: “Holy Infant Jesus, bless and protect us!” or with the following invocation: “Divine Infant Jesus, I adore Your Cross, and I accept all the crosses you will be pleased to send me. Adorable Trinity, I offer you for the glory of the Holy Name of God all the adorations of the Sacred Hear of the Holy Infant Jesus.”

You may kiss the medal.

Say three times “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us” and the prayer “Our Father”.

Then twelve times “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us” and the prayer “Hail Mary”. During each “Hail Mary” it is recommended that you meditate on one of the twelve mysteries of Jesus' childhood:

1.  The Incarnation of the Son of God

2.  The life in the womb of the Virgin Mary

3.  The birth in Bethlehem

4.  The adoration by the shepherds

5.  The circumcision of the Lord

6.  The adoration by the three magi

7.  The presentation in the Temple

8.  The flight to Egypt

9.  The stay in Egypt

10.  The return to Nazareth

11.  The hidden life in Nazareth

12.  The twelve-year-old Jesus in the Temple

At the end, you may add (once or thrice):

“Glory be to the Father…” and “Holy Infant Jesus, bless and protect us!”
