Feast of The Visitation

" And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a son in her old age;
and this is the sixth month with her that is called barren:
Because no word shall be impossible with God.
And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord;
be it done to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
 And Mary rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of Juda.
And she entered into the house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth."
Luke 1:36-40

 At the voice of the Mother of God, Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
so that she recognized the great mystery of the Incarnation in Mary;
and the infant in her womb rejoiced.

Notice in this mystery of Our Lady's life how God wished to show us
that Mary is the instrument and means by which He imparts His graces.
Admire too, the consideration Mary showed for Elizabeth.
Your heavenly Mother is your model in carrying out
the second great commandment of charity.
Through her intercession, ask Jesus for the graces you need,
especially that of being charitable.
When she was told by the Angel Gabriel
that her aged cousin Elizabeth would soon have a son,
Mary rose up and went with haste into the mountainous region to visit with her.

The moment she entered the house and greeted her cousin,
Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost; and her unborn babe,
St. John the Baptist,
was cleansed of original sin and sanctified.
Her babe leaped in the womb.

 Elizabeth cried out,

"Blessed are you for your believing
 the message that was brought to you from the Lord shall have fulfillment" "

 And Mary said,

"My soul magnifies the Lord," my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior,'
because He has looked graciously upon the lowliness of His handmaid.
Henceforth, all generations shall call me blessed. "

What a blessing did the presence of the God-Man bring to this house,
the first which He in His humanity honored with His visit!
But it is Mary who is the instrument and means
by which He imparts His divine blessing.
He intends to show us that She is the channel
through which He delights to communicate to us His graces,
and encourages us to ask them of Him through Her intercession.

Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months,
serving her aged cousin like a humble maid.

Consider the love of her neighbor that makes Our Lady share with others
the great blessings she herself has received.
We also should try to be helpful,
showing our companions that we carry Jesus in our hearts.

Mary heeds no difficulty in her labor of love.

When we see so many around us ignoring God or living in sin,
we should forego our own comfort
to perform some humble work for the spiritual advantage of our neighbor.

God's glory demands sacrifices from us.

The Magnificat

My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior.

For He hath regarded the humility of His handmaiden.

For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

For He that is mighty hath done great things to me, and holy is His Name.

And His Mercy is from generation unto generations upon them that fear Him.

He hath shewed might in His arm, He hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.

He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble.

He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He hath sent empty away.

He hath received Israel, His servant, being mindful of His mercy.

As He spoke to our Fathers, Abraham and His seed forever.

Prayer for The Visitation

O God, Who by the fruitful virginity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
have bestowed upon the human race the rewards of eternal salvation;
grant, we beg of you, that we may feel her intercession for us,
 through Whom we have been made worthy to receive the Author of Life,
Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, Who with You and the Holy Spirit
lives and reigns forever.

V. After childbearing, you remained a Virgin.
R. Mother of God intercede for us!

Bestow on Your servants, we beg You O Lord, the gift of Your heavenly grace,
that we, for whom the motherhood of the Blessed Virgin
was the beginning of salvation,
may be blessed with peace on the solemn feast day of her Visitation.
Through Christ Our Lord.
